Project Title: Stylised Character (Wilderness Warrior)

 

This is the highly stylised character brief themed around wilderness warrior concept provided with the brief. I was given 4000 tri's and a further 2000 for additional items, the texture budget was a 1024 x1024px diffuse only material. As usual my work flow consisted of a high poly sculpt in zbrush, followed by a quick retop and bake using zbrush and Xnormal. I textured it using substance using this project as an experiment. I then combined all my maps(AO, Cavity, Normals channel) in Photoshop to create my final diffuse. All rendered in marmoset.

Conclusion: I used my last project to uncover major pot holes in my pipeline, during this project I attempted to refine that process by learning from all my previous problems. I created the high poly in the first week with my specific style in mind instead of noodling around for an extra week. I also became more decisive during this project learning how to have confidence in my own artistic and technical judgement and not beating around the bush on every fork in the road. Despite being more interested in realism this was an interesting challenge both technically and artistically and I am glad I did it. The last major point of this project was using substance which from now on with be an essential part of my texturing process in the future I imagine. Of course not all is good, my re-topology and unwrap are still troublesome areas which I need to master so that will be the aim of my next project to try and advance those areas. I am also constantly trying to my texturing and sculpting as I have found this to be priority areas in character art.
