Week 2, Just as it was all going so well... so to put it in short I had a bit of a mid-week crisis of confidence. My plans to just make it more "stylised" to fit the brief was in hindsight was not a good one. I spent the first two days of the week trying to adjust my model from last week to be more dishonoured like in style. This was something I massively underestimated, as Dishonoured has such a specific easy to read look which is actually really hard to mimic.

(Dishonoured sculpts for reference)

After a lot of noodling around, getting frustrated I had a word with a tutor who helped me realise where I was going wrong and just gave me a nudge in the right direction. One of the main things he pointed out was that the artists that created dishonoured still have a really good understanding of anatomy keeping all the landmarks that you would find in the real world. Then subtle enhancing, subduing and moving features to give them more character. I tried to then replicate noticeable changes from my references, including pronounced cheek bones, smaller wider eyes and slimmer physique.

(Week 2 Progress)

Over the following few days I was just refining the individual assets, adding block colours and finally polypainting as much as possible. I also created some additional assets to try and bring more character to my creation, binoculars, a flare gun and a few air force patches. I really wanted to grit up my character as well, both the concept and my model were looking far too clean and new. I really want to get that oily gritty feel that you would expect of an early pilot.

(friday evening WIP)

I am otherwise keeping this week’s post short as I really don’t have much more to talk about but next it’s all go as that is the final leg of this project and I really want to get a head start on the next one. Til next time.
